Gentle, cruelty-free vegan skincare

My mission from the outset was to create effective, affordable and gentle skincare using the highest quality organic and sustainable plant-based ingredients.

SILVAN SKINCARE PROUDLY HOLDS THE FOLLOWING CERTIFICATIONS:

LEAPING BUNNY

All my products are registered as cruelty-free by the Leaping Bunny Programme. That means that all my products and their ingredients have been demonstrated to have not been tested on animals.

VEGAN SOCIETY

I do not use animal ingredients in any product in my range. Our face creams, hand cream, face oils, body oils, balms and lip balms are all registered with the Vegan Society.

INGREDIENTS

Where possible we choose ingredients that are organic certified by the Soil Association. We believe that it is important to select from suppliers who buy from sustainable growers, particularly when the products are tropical. We always seek out fairly traded products that give producers and communities a better deal.

ETHICAL AND FAIR TRADE PURCHASING POLICY

Read our full ethical policy here.

  • I buy ingredients that are as environmentally friendly and as natural as possible.
  • I am committed to using organic ingredients where available and practicable.
  • I only use synthetic ingredients where the natural ingredient would be derived from an animal, e.g. Vitamin A.
  • To the extent they can be obtained I will use ingredients that are fairly traded. For example the organic shea butter I use is from a Women’s Co-operative in Ghana.

ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants are substances that protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals. Normally the body can handle free radicals, but if antioxidants are unavailable or if free radical production becomes excessive, damage can occur. Free radicals unchecked can cause wrinkles, this damage can be stopped by applying antioxidants to the skin – and it’s never too early to start!

I use rosemary antioxidant and Vitamin E throughout the whole range.

OMEGAS 3 AND 6

Many skin problems may be caused by deficiencies in Omega 3 and 6 and Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA).

Plant oils are a rich source of fatty acids. A blend of oils is more likely to give a broad spectrum of fatty acids and a better balance.

BROAD SPECTRUM OF VITAMINS

A blend of oils is more than the sum of the parts, but by choosing a range of oils not only are you getting a well-rounded texture but you are also getting a broad range of vitamins for your skin.

MADE IN WALES – BY ME, BY HAND

Every single ingredient is there for a reason, thoughtfully placed to make a well rounded effective product. I make everything by hand, in small batches.

PACKAGING

Everyone is concerned about unnecessary packaging these days, particularly plastic. I try and select the best options available using the mantra reduce, re-use, recycle. I do not put my products in unnecessary box packaging that is thrown away before the product is used. I look for packaging that can be used again. The glass jars which we use for our balms, could be re-used to store herbs, spices, drawings pins, hair accessories, etc. I look to choose packaging that can be 100% recycled in household recycling boxes/bins.
